What are the Child Rights?

The Charter of Child Rights (CRC) confers the following basic rights on all children across the world:
THE RIGHT TO SURVIVAL:
The right to survival entails the right to a healthy life. This means that children should be rightfully assured of adequate nutrition and quality healthcare. Their names should be registered as citizens to access state nutritional schemes. Infant and child mortality should be curtailed and malnourishment should be a concern.
THE RIGHT TO DEVELOPMENT:
Every child has the right to development that lets the child explore her/his full potential. To an education that that not only leads the child to a path of learning but promotes understanding, tolerance and friendship among all nations, racial or religious groups, and should contribute to maintenance of peace.
THE RIGHT TO PROTECTION:
Right to Protection entails that all children be nurtured and protected from harmful influences, abuse and exploitation in any form. It ranges from a child's right to be protected from, having to work, to face any kind of physical or mental abuse and to have a caring, secure family.
THE RIGHT TO PARTICIPATION:
This is a right where the child is involved in the decisions take about her/his life and has the space to develop and express independent thought.
Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan
Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) is Government of India's flagship program for achievement of Universalization of Elementary Education (UEE). It has a clear time frame to provide useful, relevant and compulsory elementary education for all children in the 6 to 14 age group by 2010.
It functions as a partnership between the Central, State and the local governments with the active participation of the community in the management of schools.SSA aims to attend to education needs of 192 million children in 1.1 million habitations.
The program aims to enroll all children in school, Education Guarantee Centre, Alternate school, Back- to- School camp and retention of all children till the upper primary stage. It also aspires to bridge gender and social inequality gaps in school enrollment and learning.
SSA will also tackle the problem of insufficient number of teachers and will provide necessary training to the teachers to enhance the quality of education. It will provide computer education to the students to reduce the gap of digital divide.
Mid-Day Meal Scheme

The mid-day meal scheme was launched on 15th August 1995 as a Centrally Sponsored Scheme.It aims to enhance enrollment, retention and attendance and simultaneously improving nutritional levels among children. The scheme has undergone multiple revisions and currently it provides cooked meals of 300 calories and 8-12 grams of protein to all children studying in classes I-V in Government and aided schools.In addition to free supply of food grains assistance it also provides for cooking cost.
